Last year, the Critics Choice Awards honored “The Queen’s Gambit” with major wins for Best Limited Series and Best Limited Actress (Anya Taylor-Joy). He went on to win 11 trophies at the Emmy Awards, although Taylor-Joy was beaten by Kate winslet (“Mare of Easttown”) in the actress race. Now that Netflix’s chess-themed miniseries are ineligible, what will take its place in the 2022 Critics Choice Awards winner’s circle? It’s time for fresh blood.
The eight nominees for Best Limited Series are “Mare of Easttown” (HBO), “Maid” (Netflix), “WandaVision” (Disney +), “Dopesick” (Hulu), “The Underground Railroad” (Amazon), “Midnight Mass â(Netflix),â It’s a Sin â(HBO Max) andâ Dr. Death â(Peacock).

As predicted by the Gold Derby Critics’ Choice Awards, the program to beat is “Mare of Easttown”. It stars Winslet as Police Inspector Mare Sheehan, whose small Philadelphia suburb is rocked by murder. Critics also named three supporting performances: Evan peters as Detective Colin Zabel, a young detective who has a crush on Mare; Julianne Nicholson like Lori Ross, Mare’s childhood friend who knows more than she lets on; and Jean Smart like Helen Fahey, Mare’s eccentric mother. Winslet, Peters, and Nicholson all won Emmys for these roles.
The second place candidate âMaidâ is based on Stephanie Terre“Housekeeper: hard work, low wages and a mother’s will to survive.” It focuses on Margaret qualley‘s Alex, a single mom who struggles for a living after her boyfriend becomes violent. Co-stars Nick robinson (as Alex’s abusive boyfriend, Sean) and Andie MacDowell (as Alex’s maniacal mother Paula) have both been oddly snubbed at the Critics Choice Awards, despite their career best performances.
The third-place nominee “WandaVision” was a signature series for Disney + last January, with Elizabeth olsen and Paul bettany reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda Maximoff and Vision. The escape character turned out to be Catherine hahn‘s Agatha Harkness, a cackling witch with her own viral theme song, “Agatha All Along”. The program won Creative Arts Emmys for production design, costumes, music, and lyrics, though it was rejected in the above-the-line categories.
The fourth limited series with high chances is “Dopesick”, based on “Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America” ââby Beth macy and adapted by the creator Strong danny. Main actor Michael keaton and supporting actress Kaitlyn Dever received Critics Choice Award nominations for their memorable roles as Dr Samuel Finnix and Betsy Mallum, respectively.
