Weldun Media has unveiled the teaser for its limited series, four walls, who stars Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, before its international premieres.

four walls premieres at the Northeast International Film Festival (NEIFF) in November and the Buenos Aires International Film Festival in June 2023. Local premiere dates “will be announced soon.”

The teaser begins with Grootman (played by Khulu Skenjana) and Dice (Jeff Jackson) sitting across from each other in Grace’s (Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa) house; Grootman with a gun in his hand and Dice in tears, appearing destabilized and emotionally distressed.

four walls also features Gift Leotlela (as Lefa) and Israel Matseke Zulu (as the voice of Ace).

“The scenes that follow the theft of cash in transit gone wrong provide a menacing and gripping glimpse into the short limited series written and directed by Kgosana Monchusi, Juvais Dunn and Menzi Mzimela,” a statement read.

Speaking of the visuals, Dunn says their main goal was to create an entertaining series in a new format that conveys a “powerful message about certain social issues in our country.”

The nine-part series provides insight into the issue of gender-based violence and asks how far victims must go to be heard and protected. It follows Grace, a married township nurse who feels both trapped and out of breath because of her abusive husband, who has made her life a living hell; however, as she decides to end her life, her house is stormed by two runaway thugs who take her hostage.

Ahead of the first international premiere, writer, director and editor Menzi Mzimela says it’s a great opportunity to showcase honest work that touches on universal elements the world can resonate with.

“It’s also a great test for foreign filmmakers to create stories that can travel without diluting their culture and changing their language.”
