‘Vikings’ Star Travis Fimmel to Direct ‘Black Snow’ Limited Series – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: vikings, Raised by wolves and Warcraft travis star Fimmel has been tapped to lead a new mystery drama series black snowwhich is underway in Australia for streamer Stan.

The six-part series follows the mystery of a small-town murder that has rocked Australia’s South Sea Islander community of northern Queensland. The show is financed and produced in association with All3Media International, which handles international sales. Sundance Now releases in the US

Newcomers Talijah Blackman-Corowa and Jemmason Power starring Brooke Satchwell, Alexander England, Rob Carlton, Erik Thomson, Kym Gyngell and Australian singer Ziggy Ramo are also making their screen debuts.

The Stan Original is part coming-of-age drama and part thriller. In 1995, seventeen-year-old Isabel Baker was murdered. The crime shocked the small town of Ashford and devastated Australia’s South Sea Islander community of Isabel. The case was never solved, the killer never found. In 2020, the opening of a time capsule reveals a secret that puts cold case detective James Cormack (Fimmel) on the trail of the killer.

The series, produced by Goalpost Television, is created by Lucas Taylor (Harrow), writing alongside Boyd Quakawoot (Black comedy) and Beatrix Christian (Jindabyne). Directed by Sian Davies (Original Stan series The Glowing) and Matthieu Saville (please love me) and shot by Murray Lui (Upscale wedding), the series is produced by Rosemary Blight of Goalpost (The invisible Man), alongside Lois Randall and Kaylene Butler.

According to the producers, black snow”recognizes the traditional custodians of the lands on which the series is produced, including the Ngaro Gia and Juru people of the BirraGubba Nation and the South Sea Islander community of Australia”.

The Original Stan Series black snow received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Stan, and is funded with support from AMC Networks’ Screen Queensland, Screen NSW and Sundance Now.

Fimmel is replaced by Paradigm, Entertainment 360 and Sloan, Offer.
