Marvel’s Avengers: War Across Time Miniseries Launches January
By the time 2023 arrives, The Avengers will be the last Marvel property to celebrate its 60th anniversary. And House of Ideas will ring in this milestone by pairing two comic book legends on an exciting new limited series featuring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Starting early next year, writer Paul Levitz and artist Alan Davis will rewind the clock to the original avengers race designed by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Don Heck for a dubbed untold story Avengers: War Through Time.
This five-issue event features the team’s classic lineup of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant-Man, and Wasp. The story will pit the heroes against their former ally, the Incredible Hulk, who only lasted two issues on the team. But ultimately, they face a series of new threats that are somehow tied to the arrival of Kang the Conqueror, who vows to destroy the Avengers once and for all.
Terribly, war through time signals the start of Marvel for Levitz, who is best known for writing several DC stories in the 70s and 80s. He later served as DC president from 2002 to 2009. Meanwhile, Davis is no stranger to the one of the two major publishers in the industry. His own curriculum vitae includes acclaimed passages on Weird X-Men, Excalibur, JLAand Detective comics. Davis is also the sole creator of Marvel’s Clandestine family of heroes. A reworked version of DestinyClan recently made its way into Marvel Studio Ms. Marvel series.
“I learned a lot from my job as a writer from The Avengers,” Levitz said in a new statement. “And it was a pleasure to pay tribute to my old friends Stan, Jack and Don trying to do something that could have been an extended 11.1 issue. We’ve been planning this for a long time and I hope readers have as much fun as me. “
Avengers: War Through Time #1 hits comic book stores on January 11, 2023. You can see the first issue’s cover and several pages of interior artwork in the gallery below.
