Steve Zahn has joined the cast of John Hillcoat’s upcoming limited series George and Tammy, according to a recent report from Deadline.

The series, which is based on the actual marriage between musicians George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Zahn will play George Richey in the film, a songwriter, producer, and one of Nashville’s foremost country music scene artists. Richey married Wynette in 1975 after her split from Jones, and the couple remained married until Wynette’s death in 1998.
George and Tammy is slated to star Michael Shannon as George Jones and Jessica Chastain as Tammy Wynette, and will be a six-episode limited series that will air exclusively on Spectrum before moving on to Paramount + and the Paramount Network. Production of the series began today in North Carolina.
