Pohoda Slovakia provides an update on the “Pohoda on the pitch” series of alternative events

The promoters of the Pohoda Festival in Slovakia organized a series of five-day events called “Pohoda on the pitch” from July 7 to 11, after being forced to cancel their main event for the second year in a row.

It was important for festival founder Michal Kaščák to offer the same level of varied programming that people expect from Pohoda, even though the maximum daily capacity had to be reduced to 1,000 instead of the usual 30,000.

The lineup included Albin Gün, Dry Cleaning, Wooze, alongside a host of Slovak artists like Miklei, Varkocs, Nina Rosa, Trilobeat, Vojdi, Jimmy Pé, Fyasco and many more.

Jewish DJ Ramzy Al Spinoza and Palestinian rapper MC Safaa Hathot performed a symbolic set on a disused military radar that is generally not open to visitors to Pohoda.

Fulu Miziki, who creates his instruments from waste, invited the Jobus brothers on stage, who have a very similar artistic approach to everyday objects.

Belgian group Shht resolved the singer’s absence linked to Covid by involving friends, other artists and visitors. The 12 Birds & 1 Stone circus group was on-site and a must-see during every day of the festival.

Saturday was broadcast live continuously for 14 hours, streaming from multiple stages and including pre-recorded footage. The live stream has been viewed more than 3,000 times on the festival’s website, more than 2,000 times on YouTube and the Facebook videos have been viewed more than 18,000 times, according to a press release from the organizers.

The Pohoda festival takes place at Trenčín airfield, and visitors took advantage of the limited capacity by moving sideways on skateboards and inline skates.

Three main stages had been arranged in a circular fashion on the plane’s stand, artistic awareness raising installations, debates and workshops were also part of “Pohoda on the ground”.

A pilot project for returnable dishes was implemented and all equipment was connected to a fixed electricity network.

“We have had five extraordinary days. Since we started installing the structures, there was an unprecedented cordial atmosphere at Trenčín airport. It was accentuated by the entry of the first visitor on Wednesday at noon, and has remained here until now. The joy of meeting each other was endless, as was the desire to create something and to present or perceive art. I am happy that we were able to meet our visitors again, who confirmed that they are our most precious possession, ”said Michal Kaščák after the festival.

According to the organizers, nearly three quarters of the visitors have been vaccinated, all the others have been tested. The production team as well as several vaccinated visitors were tested preventively. The unvaccinated, staff and guests alike were tested daily.

During the five days, no positive COVID-19 results were recorded in more than 2,200 tests, according to the promoters, who concluded that

Kaščák commented: “The Pohoda on the Ground festival started out as a concept full of uncertainty, and any obstacles are negligible in terms of the outcome. The measurements were worth it; I think we have succeeded in creating a space full of freedom, a celebration of art, tolerance and the joy of coming together.

“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to its implementation – the commitment of many was enormous and admirable, and the visitors gave meaning to all our efforts.
