Pablo Schreiber joins Hulu Candy ‘True Crime miniseries


Following Melanie Lynskey’s recent casting as Betty Gore, Variety announces that Emmy nominee Pablo Schreiber has officially signed on to star alongside Jessica Biel in Hulu’s upcoming true crime drama. Candies, centered around the real Texas ax killer Candy Montgomery. Schreiber will play the role of Betty’s husband Alan Gore, who is an engineer from Silicon Prairie.

Thread veterinarian is best known for his roles in television shows such as Orange is the new black, American gods, and Defend Jacob, with the premiere earning him his first Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actor. He’s also set to helm the upcoming Paramount + live-action. Halo series, based on the popular video game series of the same name.

Candies will be based on the real-life story of the infamous Ax Slayer and her victim Betty Gore. Set in 1980, Texas, Candy Montgomery (Biel) apparently had a great life – a loving husband who had a good job, a daughter, a son, a house in the suburbs – so it’s surprising why she killed his friend from the church with an ax. .

The series will be written by Robin Veith, with Michael Uppendahl at the helm. It will be produced by Bienne and Michelle Purple via their Iron Ocean banner starring Uppendahl, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund and Lindsey McManus.

Candies is a co-production between UCP and 20th Television. Jim Atkinson and John Bloom signed up as consultant producers. Interestingly, the Candy Montgomery Story also gets a limited-series adaptation on HBO Max titled Love and death, with Emmy nominee Elizabeth Olsen.
