Midnight Mass Creator is developing Edgar Allen Poe miniseries for Netflix


Mike Flanagan only signed his exclusive development agreement with Netflix in 2019, but the filmmaker has been browsing projects for the streaming service ever since, not even stopping to catch his breath.

The resounding success of The Haunting of Hill House was the catalyst for the platform tying it to a long-term contract, with the series following The Haunting of Bly’s Mansion debuts in October 2020. Filming on his acclaimed latest effort Midnight Mass was well underway at that point, with the religious horror series premiering on September 24.

Naturally, Flanagan was already on his knees in the literary adaptation The midnight club long before that, which started filming in March this year and is slated to hit Netflix in late 2022. He is also overseeing a live-action shoot on the graphic novel. Something is killing the children, But that’s not all.

As you can see below, Netflix took to social media to announce that Flanagan is on board. The Fall of House Usher, based on the work of Edgar Allen Poe.

The Fall of House Usher is a short story first published in 1893 that tackles Poe’s usual themes of madness, identity, and family, but no plot details have yet been released. Knowing Flanagan, it’s going to be rich in atmosphere and dripping with existential terror.
