Marvel Studios Wins First-Ever Emmy Win with WandaVision Miniseries

The first of three 2021 Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

And Marvel Studios was one of the early winners, winning its very first Emmy with its Disney + WandaVision series.

The miniseries, which stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, won the trophy for best production design for a narrative program (half hour).

WandaVision, premiered in January 2021, is the first television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Created by Captain Marvel writer Jac Schaeffer, the show takes place in the wake of the events of 2019 Avengers: Endgame, and focuses on the two overpowered beings living idyllic suburban lives in a world straight out of a sitcom of the 1950s.

The series has been described as a “mix of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision begin to suspect that all is not as it seems”.

Overall, the Disney + series earned 23 Emmy nominations, which was the highest total of any limited series.

Some of the other categories for which Wanda Vision has been recognized at the Creative Arts Emmys include Casting of Limited Series / TV Movies, Fantasy / Sci-Fi Costumes, Period and / or Character Makeup (non-prosthetic), period and / or character hairstyle, main title design, music from the main title theme, music supervision, original music and lyrics, limited series / TV movie / special music composition, limited series / TV movie single-camera image editing , limited series / TV movie / special sound editing, limited series / TV movie / special sound mix and special effects from series or films.

Along with Olsen and Bettany, WandaVision also stars Debra Jo Rupp (Sharon Davis), Fred Melamed (Todd Davis), Kathryn Hahn (Agatha Harkness), Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo) and Evan Peters (Ralph Bohner).

The nine-episode series also features characters from Captain Marvel, Thor, and Ant-Man, and ties into the upcoming 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Olsen portrayed Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which also includes Avengers: Age Of Ultron; Captain America: Civil War; Avengers: Infinity Game and Avengers: Endgame.

The 73rd Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards will run until tomorrow Sunday and wrap up next weekend Sunday, September 19 on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
