AUGUSTA, Ga (WRDW / WAGT) – Baking and Christmas go hand in hand and what better way to celebrate than by supporting two local bakers on a national stage? NBC’s streaming service Peacock is presenting a new show called “Baking It.” We sat down with the local couple introduced to talk about their experience.
Sharon Hutko’s love for baking started at a young age and now she can share it with the world.
âWhen we finally found out we were going to be on the show, we were over the moon. It was something I had never experienced before, âsaid Sharon.
She owns her own bakery and uses social media to spread the word. Hutko says the ‘Baking It’ show contacted her after stumbling across her Instagram page.
âJust to be recognized enough that someone thinks it’s good enough to be on a TV show – boy, it felt good and it was like a win,â she said.
She needed a partner to help her on the show and her first choice failed after the COVID protocols were released. She then turned to her next best partner – her husband, Mike.
âIt’s just fun to see how things turned out. Not only was I able to come out and support her, but we were a team and it was by far one of the best experiences we’ve had since we’ve been together, âsaid Mike.
They spent time working together in the kitchen before their trip to film the show in LA. Sharon says her favorite part was bonding with the other bakers.
âThere were 14 other people who were in the trenches with us who knew exactly what we were going through. We can still talk about it with them to this day, so to have that, we won’t have that with anyone else, âsaid Sharon.
She says they’re the only team representing the south and to her that means everything.
âI’ve been very deliberate in a lot of the things we’ve done to bring a rocket from the south, use things more popular in the south, more ingredients that you might see in the south, so hopefully when the people will log in and watch it, they will see that and they will cheer us on a bit, âshe said.
