Lena Headey returns to HBO for Watergate miniseries

Following the recent addition of Domhnall Gleeson as John Dean, Deadline announces that Game Of Thrones Vet Lena Headey has signed on for a starring role in upcoming limited series titled The plumbers of the White House, which centers on the Watergate scandal. This project will also reunite Headey with HBO, which is co-producing with wiip. Gleeson and Headey will join previously announced actors Woody Harrelson (Zombieland: double tap) and Justin Theroux (Maniacal), who have both previously worked with the premium network in their respective acclaimed dramas Real detective and Leftovers.

The Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-nominated actress is expected to play the role of Dorothy Hunt, a mother of four and active CIA member. Dorothy tries to keep her family together while keeping herself out of her husband’s catastrophic misadventures. The series also marks Headey’s return to television after two years since Game Of Thrones had completed his eight-season streak in 2019.

The plumbers of the White House will focus on E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux), who planned the Watergate heist that toppled Nixon’s presidency and will explore the former president’s political saboteurs and how the duo overthrew the presidency they were trying to protect. It is considered one of the biggest political scandals in American history.

The 5-episode series is created and produced by Veep alums Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, with David Mandel directing. Executive producers are Harrelson, Theroux, Mandel, Ruben Fleischer, Gregg Fienberg, David Bernad of The District and Frank Rich, as well as Paul Lee, Nne Ebong and Mark Roybal of Wiip and Len Amato of Crash & Salvage.
