In 2016, Marvel launched a new Love at first sight series by author Jim Zub get out of the Avengers: Dead End scenario. Unfortunately, the series was short-lived and ended after just a dozen issues. However, it looks like Zub is getting another crack at the team as today the publisher announced a new Thunderbolts 5 issue miniseries featuring a different iteration of the team.
Hailing from Devil’s Reign, Hawkeye himself, Clint Barton, assembles his own Thunderbolts team of Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, and Persuasion, along with a new character named Gutsen Glory described as “a seasoned cyber soldier on the hunt for of a new glory”.
Join Zub is an artist Sean Izaakse who is also no stranger to the Thunderbolts after drawing two issues of the aforementioned previous ongoing series. No additional creators for the series were named in the announcement. Two main covers by David Nakayama and Izaakse will be available as well as a cover variant by Paolo Siqueira.
Here’s how the publisher describes the series:
Powerful crooks took hostages on Staten Island? A dimensional rift is opening in Chinatown? Monsters unleashed at the Met? Call the THUNDER!
In May, New York City will have its own authorized superhero team in THUNDERBOLTS #1! From the destruction of DEVIL’S REIGN, this all-new line of Thunderbolts will star in a limited run by the superstar creative team, writer Jim Zub and artist Sean Izaakse. Zub previously penned an action-packed series of the series in 2016 and now returns to chronicle the adventures of a new Hawkeye-led Thunderbolts that includes favorites like Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man and Persuasion as well as the thrilling debut of Gutsen Glory, an experienced cyber soldier on a quest for new glory!
In the aftermath of Devil’s Reign, the Big Apple is in big trouble, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn the tide. But when Clint Barton is tasked with leading this team and proving they can take on anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’ll have to face is himself.
Zub expressed his excitement about returning to the Thunderbolts and announced what was to come:
“Writing Thunderbolts was my first in-universe job for Marvel and Sean Izaakse’s first Marvel project as well, so to launch a new version of the team here with him on the team’s 25th anniversary is an honor. absolute. I’m so excited to put Clint Barton, Monica Rambeau, America Chavez, and a host of others through many trials and tribulations as New York’s only official superhero team. A lot of the ideas thrown around in this series are things I’ve wanted to do for years. Great action and great fun, drama, comedy and, of course, some team-worthy twists that always keep readers on their toes. Sean’s illustrations have never looked better, and he puts his incredible skills to work creating beautiful comic book pages and eye-catching designs for the new characters we’re adding to the mighty Marvel Universe. Our creative team is firing on all cylinders, so prepare for “Justice, Like Lightning” to hit all the snags!
To look for Love at first sight #1 will arrive in stores on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
