James Gunn’s Next DC Project Is Another TV Show


Following his work on HBO Max’s Peacemaker, writer/director James Gunn reveals his next DC project will be another TV show.

Following his work on HBO Max’s Peacemaker, James Gunn has revealed that his next DC project will be another TV show. Best known for bringing Marvel Studios to life guardians of the galaxy, writer/director Gunn introduced a slew of new characters to the DCEU with The Suicide Squad. One of those misfits, Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena), now has his own spinoff series, which premiered its first three episodes on January 13. Peacemaker also sees Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee reprise their roles as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos from The Suicide Squad. New additions include Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn.


Peacemaker was created, written and (mostly) directed by Gunn. taking place after The Suicide Squad, the eight-episode first season sees Peacemaker recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) ARGUS to help “save the fucking world the king” via Operation: Butterfly. In addition to delving into the seemingly ruthless killer’s past, Peacemaker deconstructs its main character and likely sets up more of the DCEU’s “Gunn-Verse.” The writer/director won’t be parting ways with Warner Bros. anytime soon. /DC as he repeatedly teased more projects after Peacemaker.

In a recent interview with Collider, Gunn confirmed ongoing discussions with DC regarding future plans. “You know, we are moving forward. It keeps happening. We’ll see what happens, and I’ll know what happens very soon. I took care of it last night and this morning,said Gunn. When asked if the project would be a movie or for television, Gunn replied, “It’s TV. here.”

Gunn hasn’t said if the next series will be another The Suicide Squad Where Peacemaker spin off. However, it seems likely that whatever will be set up/teased in Peacemaker. In the same interview, Gunn explained that he would not release episode 8 of the series to critics because “there is too much going on.” Anyway, Gunn is currently hard at work with Marvel Studios to film his latest entry in his guardians of the galaxy franchise, which recently ran into a production issue due to the Omicron variant. the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Also slated for release on Disney+ in late 2022.

Gunn, who said he might need a break after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, may only serve as a producer on the upcoming DC project. However, given his love for comic book characters and their stories, he will most likely write and direct the next one like he did. Peacemaker. This latest series is already acclaimed by audiences and critics alike for its central performance, unique tone, action, humor, heart, and soundtrack (not to mention its outrageously brilliant opening dance sequence). Whether the next series focuses on Harley Quinn, King Shark, or some other eccentric panel-and-page character who hasn’t had its day yet, it will no doubt scream James Gunn, who turns out to be just the rebel screaming the DECU needed.
