Hulu’s limited series Candies, about an infamous 1980 Texas murder case, added Pablo Schreiber to its cast.
Schreiber (Orange is the new black, Paramount + Halo) will join Jessica Biel (who took over the title role from Elisabeth Moss) and Melanie Lynskey in the cast of the real crime drama. He will play Alan Gore, a Silicon Prairie engineer, husband and father whose wife Betty (Lynskey) is mysteriously killed with an ax in their house.
Bienne plays Candy Montgomery, a woman who had a loving husband with a good job, daughter and son, a beautiful home in the brand new suburb of Dallas. So why did she kill her church friend with an ax?
Candies is one of two series on the Montgomery-Gore affair currently in the works: Elizabeth Olsen and Lily Rabe will play the two women in Love and death at HBO Max.
The Hulu series is from UCP of Universal Studio Group and Disney’s 20th Television. Robin Veith (Mad Men, The act) wrote the pilot and is executive producer with Nick Antosca (The act) and Alex Hedlund (through their company Eat the Cat); Bienne and Michelle Purple from Iron Ocean; and pilot director Michael Uppendahl (Fargo, the mad men). Jim Atkinson and John Bloom consult with producers.
Schreiber stars as Master Chief in Paramount + (formerly Showtime) adaptation of the mega-sale Halo video game franchise. Filming for the season has ended and its premiere is set for 2022 after a multi-year development and production process that has featured several showrunners and directors. He got an Emmy nomination for Netflix Orange is the new black; other recent credits include Apple Defend Jacob, American gods at Starz and functionality First man. Schreiber is replaced by WME, Circle of Confusion and lawyer Karl Austen.
