Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes transforms into Mike Tyson in the trailer for Mike.
Hulu unveiled the first look at the unauthorized eight-part series on Wednesday. The video begins with Rhodes looking at himself in a mirror and saying “they call me a savage”. The trailer continues to chart Tyson’s journey from childhood, to riches, to prison.
The cast includes BMF actor Russell Hornsby as promoter Don King, plus guest stars Harvey Keitel, Laura Harrier and Li Eubanks.
Here’s the official description: “The eight-episode limited series explores the tumultuous highs and lows of Tyson’s boxing career and personal life – from being a beloved global athlete to an outcast and back again. Focusing on Mike Tyson, the series examines class in America, race in America, media fame and power, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American dream, and ultimately our own role in the elaboration of Mike’s story.

Tyson has previously expressed his anger that he was not consulted for the series. In a since-deleted Instagram post in February 2021, he accused Hulu of “cultural misappropriation”.
“Hulu’s announcement to make an unauthorized miniseries of Tyson’s story without compensation, while unfortunate, comes as no surprise. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of the how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural hijacking of Tyson’s life story,” he captioned his post.
Over Tyson’s objections, Hulu moved forward with the series – which was previously titled Iron Mike.
