Hello pandas! What’s a TV show or movie that you knew was going to be awful, but turned out to be awesome?
“A Series of Unfortunate Events”
I have already seen the movie with Jim Carrey and I was really excited about the series. I disabled it because of the subtitles under the baby, but decided to give it another chance a bit later.
It turns out to be one of the smartest series I’ve ever seen, I loved it!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I thought it would be bad because the movie was horrible, but the series is now my favorite.
Will and Grace.
I was changing the channel on my TV when I came across this sitcom and thought it was awful, but after watching the full episode I watched it everyday.
It’s a Disney show that I guess is geared more towards kids (although there were times when I thought otherwise), but it’s TOO GOOD. I thought it would just be weird when my dad decided to randomly cast it one day, and it quickly became one of our favorite shows.
There is depth.
Degrassi Junior High/High. I heard the other kids talking about it at school. The title sounded entirely French to me, and since I didn’t really have the same tastes as the others in my class, I thought it would be like Dawson’s Creek.
I decided to try it in the mid to late 90s, when the seasons were replaying. It was actually a really good show about learning life lessons and seeing these teenagers my age going through discrimination, getting into trouble, dealing with complicated issues. It’s somewhat comparable to the facts of life, except the kids don’t live in the same room and the plots aren’t contrived.
They used real young teenagers. Not adults pretending to be teenagers.
Some of the original cast are part of the new Degrassi spin-offs. The new spin-offs don’t hit as hard. Probably because it’s a younger generation than me and they grow up with different issues. Still interesting, though.
The Batman (with Robert Pattinson). Besides feeling pretty saturated with Batman to begin with, I’m not a huge Pattinson fan. But… I really liked it and I really liked it in it!
The stranger. I know I know. End up being one of the best shows I’ve ever watched lol.
Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous
I wasn’t really into the Jurassic Universe before seeing it, but I learned a lot more about the lore after watching it. With the show being centered around my age group and having very diverse cast and characters, that helped me a lot as well.
At first I thought it was just macho manly mafia action with lots of blood, drugs and sex streak. Well, it basically is, but it’s so well written, great acting, and beautifully filmed. Too bad there are no more seasons to come.
I was skeptical at first but then it turned out amazing! The animation was great, the characters were well developed, the story was interesting and the music was awesome!!! Turned out to be one of the best shows I’ve watched recently.
Ninjago masters of spinjitzu. I have to admit that the early seasons are really childish, but the season 3 finale and all subsequent seasons are amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I love it for some weird reason, even with its blatant storylines, silly, illogical moments at times. It’s closer to the original two movies than sequels, in my opinion.
The Indomitable (Chinese Drama) I thought it would be bad when my sister was talking about it. Watched and is my favorite from start to finish.
GI Joe Sigma Six because I’ve never watched anything GI Joe before. I had no interest in it or even knew what it was. I just watched an episode one day just to see what it was. Now I love the franchise and it has helped me discover new hobbies like reading comics. All thanks to a Saturday morning cartoon on 4Kids. GO JOE!
The Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn. I thought it was going to be a stupid, steamy movie, but it was actually good. Pretty healthy too
Here’s another one: Bar Fly
Umbrella Academy and Snowflake Mountain
Baby driver. I thought it was the standard heist/getaway stuff with too many special effects – but then the music came along.
the dragon prince (netflix series). I didn’t want to watch it but it’s actually very deep and has a good story
Demon slayer. I saw a few memes but thought there would be a slow plot move. Super good! Too bad the first season is on Netflix.
Wakfu! It’s a Netflix series (based on a video game) about a young Elyotrope named Yugo. When I first watched it I was young and getting into Anime. I saw it and said “Bro, I thought it was an anime” but stayed a wee bit. Needless to say, I quickly fell in love.
Scared. Another Netflix series. I thought it was a Goosebumps scam but it’s damn good! Also, you are curious about the lore of The Curious
Its dark materials.
Ik it sounds weird, but ngl it’s a pretty amazing sight.
Harry Potter. I thought it would be cheesy and boring, but it was great fun to watch.
Grey’s Anatomy. It started out great, it sucks now, but what makes it great is that I have something in common with all the women in the bar. Knowing this show got me fucked
