HBO acquires Facebook miniseries directed by Claire Foy


According to DeadlineHBO has acquired the rights to the upcoming limited series titled doomsday machinebased on Sheera Frenkel and Cecilia Kang New York Times bestselling book A horrible truth: In the battle for Facebook dominance. Emmy-winning Claire Foy (The crown) is leading the project and will play Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.

doomsday machine is created and written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Ayad Akhtar, who serves as an executive producer with Foy. The series will center on the many political and social issues that Facebook is trying to navigate in its growth as a social media platform.

The drama will focus on COOs Sheryl Sandberg and Mark Zuckerberg, who shape the way billions of people around the world communicate and consume information. It should cover the period beginning around the 2016 presidential election and the various internal struggles within the company leading up to its current issues.

doomsday machine will be produced by Paul Lee and Josh Stern of Wiip, Doug Wald and David Levine of Anonymous, Adam Berkowitz, Elyse Cheney and Adam Eaglin, with The New Yorker Andrew Marantz became a consultant. It comes from Anonymous Content and wiip.
