ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – At a press conference in Rochester on Tuesday, local leaders announced eight new events in downtown Rochester. The series is called “Downtown Definitely Events”. Events are expected to begin in June and last through December.
The goal of this project is to bring the community together, provide residents with fun experiences throughout the city, as well as help bring more money to downtown. Mayor Malik Evans says these events starting in the summer and spanning the entire year are just what the city needs after the pandemic.
“This downtown partnership that we’re creating — this offering that we’re creating — is long overdue,” Evans said. “I always talk about putting Rochester in the upper echelon of American cities. This will help us to be able to do that. »
The events are produced by the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, and DRDC President – Heidi Zimmer-Meyer – put the financial benefit into perspective.
“All events held under the Downtown Definitely banner will help create a more engaging experience at street level and support the unprecedented levels of investment here – more than $2.5 billion since 2000,” Zimmer said. Mayer. “If you haven’t been there recently, we invite you to experience the new downtown, enjoy our beloved festivals, and sample some of these new and exciting events and activities.”
They also unveiled the “Spaces Activation Program”. The RCCD says it will support community activities in 2022. The only requirement is that events be open to the public and free. Anyone can apply here now.
