The Marvel Cinematic Universe ended 2021 on a high note with the release of Spider-Man: No Coming Home, Spidey’s final installment in the Tom Holland-directed trilogy. But that wasn’t the only success of the past year – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Widow, Wanda Visionand Loki were among the many Marvel films and series that received critical acclaim when they debuted last year.

Fortunately, Marvel has even more anticipated releases for 2022. We will see the return of series such as What if…?which aired its first season in 2019. Ms. Marvel features the MCU’s first Muslim teenage superhero, Kamala Khan, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever delivers the sequel to the groundbreaking 2018 film. The first on the list is moon knight, with Oscar Issac, Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy and Gaspard Ulliel. The six-episode series, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, follows an ex-mercenary who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, a mental health condition characterized by the existence of multiple personalities.

Moon Knight aliases include Steven Grant, a gift shop employee who repeatedly experiences power outages and memories of an alternate life. He soon realizes that he shares a body with Marc Spector, a former Marine who was resurrected by the ancient Egyptian god, Khonshu. Faced with a “deadly mystery” involving the Egyptian gods, Steven/Marc is forced to navigate through the complexity of their multiple identities. The series will stream exclusively on Disney+.

Morbius

Morbius is a film based on the Marvel Comics character Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who suffers from a rare blood disorder and, in an attempt to cure himself of his debilitating disease, accidentally transforms into a vampire-like villain. In the comics, Morbius is an adversary to Spider-Man, but there’s been no confirmation on whether or not we’ll see Spidey take on the anti-hero in the film.

With Jared Leto as the main character, Morbius was produced by Sony Pictures in association with Marvel Studios, so it’s not technically in the correct Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was originally supposed to release in July 2020, but due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, the release date has been pushed back several times. Now viewers can finally see it in theaters this spring.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Sam Raimi, director of the original Spider Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, is the filmmaker behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is slated to hit theaters in late spring.

The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Rachel McAdams as Dr Christine Palmer, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Dr Nicodemus West. Following the events of Spider-Man: No Coming HomeDoctor Strange casts a spell and must now deal with the consequences of opening the door to the alternate realities of the multiverse.

Ms. Marvel

On March 15, fans finally got a glimpse of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Muslim teenage superhero. Kamala Khan is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American living in Jersey City, New Jersey, who harbors a deep fascination with superheroes, especially Captain Marvel. She leads an ordinary teenage existence, dreaming of what life would be like if she had superpowers of her own – that is, until she finds out she in fact the a.

Actress Iman Vellani makes her screen debut as the title character. According to Variety, Saagar Shaikh plays his older brother, Mohan Kupar and Zenobia Shroff his parents, Matt Lintz his best friend, and Aramis Knight, the Red Dagger. The six-episode series will stream exclusively on Disney+.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Unfortunately, we don’t have a trailer for it yet. Thor: Love and Thunderthe next fifth installment Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarokand Avengers: Endgame. Taika Waititi directs, while Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as the god of thunder. Tessa Thompson stars as Valkyrie, while Natalie Portman appears as Jane Foster, also known as Mighty Thor. Chris Pratt, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Matt Damon, Melissa McCarthy and Christian Bale also star.

We don’t know too many details yet, but we do know that filming wrapped in June 2021, according to Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram post. He even offered a little teaser in the caption: “The movie is going to be crazy bat**t crazy wall funny and might as well pull a heart chord or two. Lots of love, lots of thunder!”, a he wrote.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a sequel to the 2018 film, Black Panther. It will further explore the world created in the first film, although it lacks an iconic character. After actor Chadwick Boseman – who played T’Challa, King of Wakanda – died in August 2020, director Ryan Coogler had to reimagine the events of this second installment.

Plot details have been kept under wraps and we are still months away from the release date. But we do know that most of the ensemble cast are returning, including Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, and Winston Duke.

She-Hulk

She-Hulk premieres this year on Disney+, though an official release date has yet to be announced. Tatiana Maslany stars as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner, aka Hulk. After receiving a blood transfusion from her cousin, she also gains Hulk-like superhuman abilities.

Mark Ruffalo assumes his role as a monstrous superhero. Also joining are Tim Roth, Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga and Josh Segarra. According to Colliderthe series will air in 10 30-minute episodes – and this leaked trailer gives fans their first look at Maslany as the eponymous character.

What if…?

The second season of What if…? is scheduled for this year, although an official date is still unknown. The first season premiered in August 2021, so we can probably expect the second installment to drop in late 2022.

Marvel Studios confirmed in November 2021 that The Watcher would return to the animated series and that we would encounter even more superheroes and realities in the multiverse.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

To close out the year, Marvel Studios will release Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special created, written and directed by James Gunn. The special will delight fans while they wait for the next one guardians of the galaxy film to premiere in 2023.

Like most Marvel projects, storyline details are unknown, but we do know the program will stream on Disney+.
